Entrance sign for Garðabær
From the competition report:
The entrance sign is intended to welcome locals and visitors to Garðabær and capture the attention of thousands of passers-by who come to the town at a speed of two to 80 kilometers per hour.
The entrance sign is woven together from three equal-sized flat frames into a three-dimensional symbol that stands steadily in balance on three points, one corner of each frame.
The entrance sign is both complex and simple at the same time.
The entrance sign is always placed in connection with paths where traffic is slow, but care is also taken to ensure that it is very clearly visible from the roadways.
The entrance sign is supported on three foundations and an effort is made to disturb the surrounding land as little as possible. The entrance sign can be made from various materials, the final decision on the choice of material being determined by the funds allocated for the project.
