Pedestrian and cycling bridges
Pedestrian and bicycle bridges over Elliðaárós are a symbol of changing times with an emphasis on sustainable transportation. An interesting and fun experience on a bicycle route through Geirsnef makes cycling an option for those who have errands between the parts of town west and north of the river.
The bridges are designed in the shape of a triangular pyramid. The deck is held up with steel wires that connect to the top of the pyramid. An effort is made to minimize material consumption by giving the bridge a stable basic shape, which is also the bridge’s distinctive feature.
A pathway lies between the two bridges and along the coastline with rest stops and information stands along the way.
