Vogabyggð
From the report:
There is a unique opportunity to develop an urban environment in interaction with the coastal area at the mouth of the Elliðaá River. The neighborhood will be characterized by targeted land use, dense settlement, good design, more conscious use of building materials based on their life cycle, ecological and carbon footprint, and high-quality design of structures and the environment. A transportation policy will be defined and requirements will be made for energy and water consumption as well as waste emissions during the construction period and for the future.
The basic theme of the Vogabyggð planning concept is that the neighborhood is a holistic and sustainable unit characterized by a large mix of residential and commercial buildings that creates a framework for a diverse human life, different age and social groups. The planning of Vogabyggð creates a humane setting and attractive places and promotes greater use of public spaces and increased interaction between people. A variety of small shops and services increase the social quality of the neighborhood. The corner merchant is one of the cornerstones of the local community. The cafeteria in commercial buildings is always at street level and open to the public. Basic services in the Vogahverfi district serve the residents of Vogabyggð, there is a primary and secondary school as well as a kindergarten, health care, etc. A pedestrian bridge over Sæbraut at Tranavogur and Snekkjuvogur enhances environmentally friendly transportation between the districts and increases pedestrian safety.
The planning proposal allows for a diverse range of residential and commercial buildings in a 3-5-storey suburban area, which forms a coherent streetscape in a city-oriented street system. The current street system is used as the basis for a new planning concept for the area. Dugguvogur is extended in a natural continuation of the existing street. Through streets are laid out so that all the better buildings at Súðavogur can remain, unchanged or expanded and rebuilt.
In the built-up area at Sæbraut there is commercial housing, which forms a sound shield for the district. The areas between Súðavogur and Dugguvogur are characterized by a very mixed development of commercial and residential housing. Residential development is located along the coastal area.
